Effects of Carthami Flos and Leonuri Herba on the Liver Damaged with Carbon Tetrachloride Treatment in Rats

Abstract
|

|
After orally administration of a single dose of carbon tetrachloride to rat, the rat was fed the decoctions prepared from Carthami Flos or Leonuri Herba twice at internals of 12 hours. Then, the effects of C. Flos and L. Herba on liver damage was examined.
The results were :
1. The decoctions prepared from C. Flos and L. Herba decreased the activities of blood ALT and AST in the damaged rats, and the decoctions prepared from L. Herba increased the glucose level.
2. The decoctions decreased blood LDH activity and blood bilirubin level in the rats.
3. The decoctions prepared from C. Flos and L. Herba and no effects on the blood ALP activity in the rats.
4. The changes of the activities and the levels were not in proportion to the prescribed amount of the decoctions. It needs further study on the optimal dosage.
